Price Guide for the Beatles American Records

by Perry Cox and Frank Daniels.
Edited by Bruce Spizer

An exciting new publication with thousands of new listings. Unlike prior guides, all formats for a particular title will be listed together. Thus, the listings under Abbey Road will include vinyl records, 4-track tapes, 8-track tapes, cassettes and compact discs, all in one place. The book will also have color images throughout. Each page of listings will have color images of some of the items described on the page. Most pages have four images, with some having more.

Another innovation is the adoption of the numbering system used in Bruce Spizer’s books. This will enable collectors to coordinate prices in the guide with images in Bruce Spizer’s books. The identification numbers assigned to items in this book are permanent and will not change in future editions. Each listing will have a checkbox so that collectors can mark the items in their collections. Many people will want to own two copies of the book: one for marking up and one to keep on the shelf with their other Beatles books.

When you both write and publish your own books, you learn a lot about printing. Prior to the books being bound, the printer folds and gathers the signature sheets and cuts them down to size. They are then sent to the publisher for final review. These are called the F&Gs (folded and gathered) and show you exactly what the book will look like.

I am pleased to say that the F&Gs look F’in’ Great. The colors look spectacular and the left/right page spreads work extremely well. I have given my final approval to the printer to send the books to the bindery. They will be bound and boxed, with the shipment leaving Canada next Thursday, May 4. They will arrive about a week or so later and we will begin packing and mailing the pre-orders.

For those of you that can’t wait, remember that if you order the Collector’s Edition, you will be able to download a pfd of the book on May 1, next Monday! While there is nothing like holding an actual book in your hands, the pdf looks great on an iPad or computer and enables you to begin reading about Sgt. Pepper a few weeks ahead of the actual book’s publication. After seeing the F&Gs, I can assure you that “A splendid time is guaranteed for all.”
