Paul McCartney Names the One Thing He’ll Never Do In His Career
Paul McCartney has played countless venues and a variety of different shows, but there’s one thing, performance-wise, you’ll likely never see him do.
In a new interview with British GQ, Sir Paul was asked whether he’d ever do a Las Vegas residency or a one-man-show like Bruce Springsteen did on Broadway, and he gave a surprising answer.
“As for playing Vegas, that’s something I’ve been trying to avoid my whole life,” said McCartney. “Definitely nothing attracts me about the idea. Vegas is where you go to die, isn’t it? It’s the elephant’s graveyard.” (Perhaps he’s never seen the revenue returns on Vegas residencies as of late or the major stars, like Elton John, that have done them.)
When it comes to a Springsteen on Broadway-style show, he also didn’t really show much of an interest saying, “Some people would like me to do it, as they say I’ve got plenty of stories and plenty of songs, but one of the things that’s holding me back at the moment is that Bruce has just done it, you know? It feels a bit like, ‘Oh, suddenly I’ll do it now then!’”
Macca continues, “So I think that’s made me a little reluctant to follow in his footsteps or follow a trend. The idea is OK, but I think I’d just prefer to play with the band to a bigger audience, or even smaller – I don’t mind little clubs. I do a solo segment in the middle of my shows at the moment and to do a whole show like that, I’m not sure I fancy it. It might be a little bit like too much hard work.”
While a Vegas residency and a one-man-show seems unlikely, can you imagine Paul McCartney doing a small club tour? How amazing (and pricey) would that be?!
