Rhona Winter received two letters from Paul in the early-1960s after she sent him a birthday card. She said: “When Paul was 21 I managed to find out where he lived and sent him a birthday card. Then, a little while later, I got a reply from him, signed with three kisses.“He said he was enclosing a photograph, but it wasn’t there. So I wrote to him again and got a second letter, with three more kisses, along with the promised photograph which he’d signed.”Rhona’s brother-in-law John Winter has included her story in Blame It On The Beatles And Bill Shankly – a fictional account of a teenager who used to chat to The Beatles in coffee bars before seeing them rise to fame.Much of the novel is based on fact as John Winter was a songwriter in Liverpool in the 60s and he met Paul at The Cavern Club in Liverpool where they first made their name.
