Secrets of the Dakota, the building where John Lennon lived and was killed, were revealed by real estate heirs and philanthropists Toby and Larry Milstein at a reception for the Frick Collection that they hosted with the museum’s director, Ian Wardropper. The siblings revealed that $30,000 in cash is allegedly hidden under the floors of Lennon and Yoko Ono’s apartment by the former owner, but the co-op board refused to destroy the historic parquet to find it.Toby also said, “Frankenstein lived in the building,” referring to Boris Karloff, who played the iconic character in the movies, “as did the ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev.”Alexander and Jamie Bernstein — the children of Leonard Bernstein, who wrote “West Side Story” and lived in what is now the Milsteins’ apartment — returned to their old home for the first time and said that Lauren Bacall was a regular guest.“She lived exactly upstairs, two floors, and was down here all the time. She would come through the back stairs and just arrive right in the kitchen unannounced all the time. She was like our crazy aunt upstairs,” said Jamie.
