Horst Fascher, Beatles’ Hamburg Ally and Star-Club Pioneer, Dies at 90
Horst Fascher, the legendary Hamburg music figure closely associated with the Beatles’ formative German years and the co-founder of the Star-Club, has died at 90. NDR reports that it confirmed his death through people close to Fascher’s family; his brother Uwe separately said Fascher died peacefully on October 31. ndr.de
Fascher was much more than a footnote in Beatles history. He helped establish the Star-Club on Hamburg’s Große Freiheit, where the Beatles played during the crucial period immediately before worldwide fame. His venue also brought performers including Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis and others into the same extraordinarily fertile Hamburg rock-and-roll environment.
