On a song from The Beatles’ Revolver, John Lennon wanted thousands of monks to chant. He later realized that this was impractical, but he wished that the final song was more in line with his original concept. The Beatles’ longtime producer, in particular, likened the Fab Four’s creative process to that of a well-known painter.

Many Fab Four asides can be found in The Beatles: The Authorised Biography, published in 1968. John discussed how his songs didn’t always reflect his ideas in one of them. “A lot of the time, the initial backing I think of never materializes,” he admitted.
Then John performed a song from The Beatles’ album Revolver. “I imagined in my head that thousands of monks would be chanting in the background with ‘Tomorrow Never Knows,’” he recalled. “Of course, that wasn’t feasible, so we came up with a different solution.”
