Before asking Jeff Lynne to help him produce Cloud Nine, George Harrison needed to complete a few tasks. First, George had to forgive himself for calling Lynne a Beatles clone. Second, George needed to get to know Lynne in order to determine whether or not they would make good songwriting partners.
When those issues were resolved, George knew Lynne could get to work. The former Beatle liked working with them because it made him feel like he was back in a band.
Before they started writing songs together, George Harrison had to get to know Jeff Lynne.
Through the music industry grapevine, Lynne learned that George wanted him to produce his new album, Cloud Nine. So Lynne paid a visit to the ex-Beatle at his Friar Park home. George asked Lynne if he wanted to vacation with him in Australia before going any further in that meeting.
