Over the course of five years, poet Paul Muldoon sat down with Paul McCartney to create an insider’s look at the creation of some of McCartney’s greatest hits.
Inside “The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present” is a look at the words with commentary from McCartney and archival photos of written notes and behind-the-scenes images never published before.
In multiple hours-long sessions the pair explored what was going on when, and where, 154 of his most memorable songs were written.
Included is how the hit. “All My Loving.” came to be while fiddling around backstage during a tour and the story of a telegram the The Beatles received from a well-known artist they admired.
Muldoon spoke of how the book became more than he ever expected, that it was more than just text. “It’s a fabulous visual feast,” Muldoon said.
