Slash, the guitarist for Guns N’ Roses, mentions George Harrison as an influence. It’s hard to believe that the guitarist who wrote “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” influenced the guitarist who continues to melt faces on hard rock classics like “Paradise City,” but if you listen closely, you can hear George in Slashes’ playing.
Slash’s guitar playing may have been influenced by George, but one of Slash’s dreams was shattered by George’s sitar playing.
George Harrison, according to Slash, made sitars sound cliche.
On “Spirit Love,” which appeared on his solo album 4, the guitarist from “Sweet Child O’ Mine” used a sitar. Due to the instrument’s connection to George, Slash debated whether or not to use it. Many Beatles songs, including “The Inner Light,” “Within You Without You,” and “Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown),” featured the Indian instrument played by the Beatles’ guitarist.
