Five times John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ has given us hope in the wake of tragedy
It is a testament to the power of the song that every time a terrible act of violence is perpetrated on this world it is John Lennon’s “Imagine” that we turn to time and time again. The day after the senseless violence in Paris a German pianist, who reportedly biked a piano up to the entrance of Bataclan Concert Hall, delivered an emotional instrumental version of the song. Coldplay also performed the song in honor of Paris at what was supposed to be a night of celebration for the band Friday in Los Angeles.Coldplay was set to preview their new album A Head Full of Dreams live at The Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles. The event was to be streamed live by TIDAL. But when the news of the horrific events began to flood the airwaves, including that of the massacre at Bataclan, Coldplay decided to cancel the live stream and played a shortened set, which opened up with a cover of “Imagine.”
