After Playing Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody” Rami Malek Feels Embraced By Rock Royalty | WAAF
The moment Rami Malek landed the role of a lifetime playing Freddie Mercury in the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, the actor has been on cloud 9. The film has already risen to be the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time, it won “Best Motion Picture – Drama” and “Best Actor in a Leading Role” at the 2019 Golden Globes, and it has its sights set on the Academy Awards. And Malek has been loving every second of it.
Malek also admits that after hanging around the surviving members of Queen for so long, he has been embraced by rock royalty like Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and Mick Jagger as if he actually was Freddie Mercury! “I went to see Paul McCartney in London,” says Malek. “Ringo [Starr] was sitting next to me, and Ronnie Wood from the Rolling Stones. It was amazing! – And also I was sitting next to Roger Daltry from The Who. It was absolutely bananas! And then I was taken backstage as if I were Freddie Mercury!”
But during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Malek got the bad news that despite his stock in the rock community going way up, it wasn’t enough to save him from an awkward onstage moment with actress Nicole Kidman that will probably become a meme if it hasn’t already.
