James McCartney – Hotel Café, Hollywood
James McCartney
Hotel Café, Hollywood
May 3rd 2017
Angie, Ruth and Martin had the great pleasure of attending a performance by James McCartney at The Hotel Café in Hollywood on 3rd May, when he gave a varied and heartfelt performance of self penned songs from his album Marshmallow Maiden, He is currently on a US tour, which runs through May 13th, when it ends up in British Columbia, Canada.
He showed his talent and passion for his music, and can be proud to bear the name of his late grandfather, Jim McCartney.
It was an emotional reunion for all, and Angie told James that she had not seen him since she held him in her arms at a London Nursing Home when he was two days old in 1977.
After the show, the group hunkered down in the Green Room to catch up on news, and exchange stories of what we had all been up to over the years, and Angie was particularly warmed that he held her hand and treated her with fondness and respect. It was certainly a night to remember, and, as Angie put it “one to cross off the bucket list.”
She gave him a copy of her book: My Long and Winding Road, which contains pictures of his Mum and Dad and sisters on the farm in Scotland before he was born.
Ruth was able to impart personal stories about his Mum, whom he obviously misses greatly. All in all, it was a memorable experience.
James second album, The Blackberry Train. A set of songs with definitely a harder edge, which manages to be both diverse and cohesive. Smart hooks and feral alt-rock with the grandeur and spiritually centeredness of psychedelic music.
