The daddy of all Liverpool urban myths, and one that some still believe with a passion, is that Adolf Hitler lived in the city for a while. His brother Alois certainly did, along with his Irish wife, Bridget Dowling and baby Patrick. Bridget would later claim that Hitler had come to stay with them at their home in Upper Stanhope Street, Toxteth, from the autumn of 1912 to the spring of 1913.During his time here, it is claimed the 23-year-old Adolf enjoyed a pint at his local pub, Peter Kavanagh’s – still here to this day – and even took a job at the Adelphi hotel.
