Ringo Starr celebrated his 76th birthday today by hosting the latest installment of his annual “Peace & Love” salute in front of the Capitol Records Tower in Los Angeles. Joining the former Beatles drummer at the event were a bunch of his family members, celebrity friends and musical collaborators.Among the many stars in attendance were Ringo’s brother-in-law Joe Walsh; Dave Stewart; Edgar Winter; Richard Marx; Benmont Tench; All Starr Band members Steve Lukather and Gregg Bissonette; director David Lynch; actors Ed Begley Jr. and Joe Mantegna; and comedians Richard Lewis and Howie Mandel. Before the salute, Starr joined Stewart and one-time INXS singer Jon Stevens for a performance of his 1975 hit “No No Song.”Ringo then told the audience that he’d been talking to the press earlier in the day and was asked what he means by “peace and Love.”“I mean ‘peace and love,’” Starr declared. “[T]here’s a lot of violence in the world, there always has been, but we can change that slowly but surely. Peace and loving.”As the clock approached noon, Ringo asked the various stars assembled on the stage to say a few words, then Walsh led a countdown and the crowd joined him and Starr in yelling, “Peace and love!” Walsh also got everyone to sing “Happy Birthday to You” to Ringo, after which Starr cut a big cake on the stage and blew out the candles.
