The Beatles haven’t existed for over half a century, yet the fascination with finding their ‘successor’ still hasn’t really died down. There was a particular period, however, the late 1960s and 1970s, when every act seemed to be vying for that exact title.Over the course of less than a decade, the band reached unprecedented levels of fame and notoriety, and were widely regarded as having given birth to pop music as we know it today. It’s almost impossible to have a discussion about the history of popular music without making mention of the body of work that the Liverpool band created together, and even after everyone who remembers their existence first-hand has passed on, younger generations are still likely to acknowledge their brilliance.
