It’s funny that on Abbey Road, the album that many would consider The Beatles’ greatest ever, the very best songs came from the musician long overshadowed as a songwriter. With ‘Here Comes the Sun’ and ‘Something’, George Harrison emphatically proved that he had been ignored for too long. He had been the victim of John Lennon and Paul McCartney’s godlike innovation in the 1960s. They had become such a dominant songwriting partnership that Harrison was often left with little room to establish himself, even though he had proven himself with the likes of ‘Taxman’ and ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’.
