A broken guitar string belonging to George Harrison and a collection of Beatles signatures secured by a teenage admirer in 1963 are expected to fetch upwards of £4,000 at auction. The Beatles gave their autographs to awestruck Elizabeth Salt, then 15, even signing her arm after performing at the Savoy Ballroom in Southsea, Portsmouth, on April 7, 1963. When George Harrison’s guitar string snapped mid-performance, the quick-witted teenager, then called Elizabeth McBrierty, seized the opportunity to collect it from the stage as a keepsake. Despite being “heartbroken” when her dad insisted she scrub the signatures from her arm, Elizabeth thankfully preserved her autograph book containing the precious mementos.
