Paul McCartney pauses three songs in to his second night at Co-Op Live. He wants to “take a moment”, he tells us, to “drink it in.” Within seconds the moment has passed and he’s launching in to Drive My Car. The years fall away as he and his band fully embrace the spirit of a song at the more ridiculous end of the Beatles’ canon. The shift from profound reflection to unabashed good times characterises the night, and in many ways it’s McCartney all over. He’s spent decades as the coolest guy in any room he’s in, without coolness ever seeming like a costume that quite fits.
