Budding songwriters have two opportunities to have their music heard by industry experts and maybe win a few prizes that will help boost their careers.

Organizers of The International Songwriters Day Contest and The Women’s Freedom Song Contest have put out a call for entries for the two competitions, both of which are open to songwriters at all experience levels.

International Songwriters Day is celebrated April 9 to mark the date in 1860 of the earliest known recording of the French folk song “Clare de la Lune (By the Light of the Moon).” The song was recorded by Edouard-Leon Scott de Martinville and was deposited in 1861 with the Academie of Sciences.
