John Lennon once corrected a journalist who believed a line from The Beatles’ “I Am the Walrus” was about marijuana instead of sex. John then pondered the significance of sex in music in general.
30 singers and The Beatles’ rock ‘n’ roll rhythm sections were once combined by John Lennon.
An interview from 1980 is included in the book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono. When asked if “I Am the Walrus” contained the line “Everybody smoke pot,” John responded, “No, no, no.” Everyone’s got one, everybody’s got one, I heard the entire choir singing.
John explained the reason the lyric was hard to hear. However, he observed, “you can’t hear what they’re saying when you get 30 people, male and female, on top of 30 cellos and on top of The Beatles’ rock ‘n’ roll rhythm section.
