John Densmore, drummer for The Doors, recalled George Harrison’s reassuring words during a difficult period in his life. When it came to death and dying, the ex-Beatle was blunt but wise. They offered support to Densmore as he mourned the loss of a bandmate.
George Harrison’s words, according to John Densmore, helped him cope with his loss of Ray Manzarek.
On an episode of the “Everything Fab Four” podcast (per Salon), Densmore spoke with Kenneth Womack about the parallels between The Doors and The Beatles. He also revealed that George’s words helped him cope with the loss of Ray Manzarek, the Doors’ keyboardist.
Densmore quotes George’s sentiments after the death of John Lennon in a chapter of his book, The Seekers, the drummer explained. “How can you have a relationship with Jesus or whoever you’re projecting as a deity if you can’t have a special relationship with someone and you can’t continue that after they died?” George essentially said.
