You could always rely on John Lennon for a frank opinion on The Beatles’ songbook.He was never above a frank critique of his own work, dismissing a few Fab Four pieces later in life, despite coming straight from his own songwriting pen. Embarrassment was felt at the viciously misogynistic ‘Run For Your Life’, Help!’s ‘It’s Only Love’ was disregarded for its supposedly trite lyrics, and he’d distance himself from the sunny cheer of ‘Good Morning Good Morning’s “piece of garbage” pastiche of a Kellogg’s television commercial.
