The argument has been echoing for more than 60 years, whispered in record stores, shouted at backyard barbecues, and debated long past last call: Were you a Beatles fan, or did you swear allegiance to the Rolling Stones?On Jan. 24, that friendly rivalry comes roaring back to life when “Beatles vs. Stones—A Musical Showdown” returns to The Canyon club in Agoura Hills for a 9 p.m. show recreating the greatest concert that never actually happened.Born in the early 1960s, the so-called rivalry between the Beatles and the Rolling Stones was as much about image as music.The Beatles, with their matching suits and infectious melodies, were marketed as the charming good boys from Liverpool. The Stones, meanwhile, leaned hard into blues grit and danger, proudly styling themselves as rock’s rebels.In reality, the bands admired one another.Some trivia here: John Lennon and Paul McCartney even gifted the Stones their first hit, “I Wanna Be Your Man,” and fans went to turn the contrast into rock’s liveliest debate.
