John Lennon was never afraid to speak his mind or cause controversy. He famously declared that The Beatles were “more popular than Jesus” in a 1966 interview, leading to plenty of backlash from Christians in America.The controversial comments kept coming after John left the band, as he spoke frankly about aspects of being in The Beatles he didn’t enjoy, as well as taking aim at some of the music they worked on. The ECHO has previously looked into John’s dislike of the otherwise universally beloved ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ and his disagreements with Paul McCartney about which parts of certain songs they each wrote.
