A production about Beatle John Lennon that has already played in New York, Scotland and Australia will open in the Beatles hometown of Liverpool this month, it was announced Friday. “Lennon: Through A Glass Onion” will run at the city’s Epstein Theatre, named for Beatles manager Brian Epstein, from April 18 through April 29. The show, written by John Waters and produced by Harley Medcalf, is part-concert and part-biography that celebrates the life and music of Lennon. It includes 31 songs, with music from his solo career, such as “Imagine,” “Woman,” “Working Class Hero” and “Jealous Guy,” and also several Beatles songs written with Paul McCartney, including “Strawberry Fields Forever,” “Revolution” and “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.”Liverpool actor Daniel Taylor, who stars in the show, has previously played the lead in “The Tommy Cooper Show.” He is currently starring as Mickey in “Down The Dock Road.” He will be joined by accompanist Stewart D’Arrietta, whose Tom Waits show, “Belly of a Drunken Piano,” ran for nine months in New York. D’Arrietta was also the musical director for “The White Album Concert by The Beatles” when it played at the Sydney Opera House.
