Marcella Detroit, aka Marcy Levy, born and bred in Detroit, Michigan, has been involved in music her entire life.
One of her earliest gigs found her opening for David Bowie! A few years later she was touring and recording with Eric Clapton, cowriting one of his biggest hits, “Lay Down Sally” and several of his most popular album tracks including “The Core”, “Promises” and “Tangled in Love”. She appeared live with him for “Live Aid” in Philadelphia in 1985.
Marcella is known for her touring and session work for some of the best artists of all time including Elton John, Aretha Franklin, George Benson, Stanley Clarke, George Duke, Belinda Carlisle, Bette Midler, Bob Seger and Leon Russell. She was also a member of the ground breaking award winning band “Shakespear’s Sister”. Their song “Stay” is the longest running “Number One” hit for a female band in UK history remaining at number ONE for 8 weeks.
Last year Marcella fulfilled a life long ambition to design a fashion collection with Neil Sheriff for his brand Hoodedwept.
