Martin punched the Beatles’ “Ticket to Ride” | Local News | mcalesternews.com
I became aware at a young age of the role played by music recording producers.By reading liner notes while still in elementary school, I soon learned that not only the artists performing on recordings had a lot to do with their sound, but their producers did as well. It didn’t take long for me to have a favorite producer on both sides of the Atlantic — Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys in the U.S. and George Martin in England. While the Beach Boys had their own self-contained producer in Wilson, their friendly rivals, the Beatles, counted on Martin. He helped transform the group from the leather jacket-clad raucous band which honed its sounds in Hamburg, Germany’s notorious Reeperbahn nightclub district in the early 1960s, to what many considered the world’s premier recording artists a few years later.Martin, who died last week at the age of 90, had a remarkable influence on music through his work with the Beatles as well as other artists.
