Beatles pal Klaus Voormann releasing rare Apple demo for charity | Examiner.com
APCOR Books, who put out the book “A Is for Apple” with detailed information about Apple Records and which is to be followed by a second volume, announced March 4 that they will release a benefit vinyl single featuring a rare Apple demo by longtime Beatles friend Klaus Voormann. He was the artist and musician who first met the Beatles during their days in Hamburg and later created the cover of the “Revolver” album and the concept for the “Beatles Anthology” collage. The Voormann song, called “Lu La Le Lu,” was administered by Apple Publishing in the early 1970s. The track has been taken off an original Apple acetate and the song has been cleaned up for release. APCOR has been granted permission to use the song by Voormann and his wife Christine. The A-side demo features Voormann on vocals accompanying himself on guitar and singing recorded on his personal Grundig tape recorder. Around the time the record was made, Voormann was staying in a small cottage at George Harrison’s Friar Park estate.
