Want to spruce up John Lennon’s priceless Rolls-Royce? Royal B.C. Museum is taking bids
When John Lennon first sang “Baby, you can drive my car” in 1965, he probably didn’t think a Canadian museum would make the same offer on his behalf 50 years later. The Royal B.C. Museum in Victoria, which holds Lennon’s 1965 Rolls-Royce Phantom V in its collection, filed a request for a standing offer (RSO) last month for Rolls-Royce mechanical services for the heavily customized luxury vehicle once owned by the Beatle.“This vehicle requires mechanical work from time to time,” the RSO says. “The intent is to maintain the vehicle in existing condition, preserving the original materials as they were received into the collection … with emphasis on the historic significance of the car as it relates to John Lennon.”The RSO contains a long list of responsibilities for the contractor, including the requirement they store it at an indoor, heated, fully insured, secured and closed facility with a sprinkler system.
