I felt a tap on my shoulder. ‘Hi handsome’, Julie softy whispered in my ear.
‘Thought we couldn’t let you in on The Ritual tonight without your babysitters present!’
I turned and saw Julie, Caspar and the others in line behind me.
Everyone was here, except Velvet.
‘What happened to Velvet?’ I asked but before I got an answer, Caspar leaned forward with an outstretched hand and said:
‘You’re going to need one of these, or the machines will detect you.’
I took what looked like a glowing ear piece. ‘Stick it in your ear and we all will simply blend in’. Caspar said, producing a smile. ‘It’s time for the live show, The Converison, so take a deep breath and be on guard.’
Very few had ever seen a ‘live conversion’ before. The process, how the sausage was made. How someone was being converted from human to something else. Something darker that would be sent out to space to build new colonies for ANRAC.
It was time for the Ritual…
Announcer:
‘Ladies and gentlemen, please takes your seats.
We have something for you tonight, something special.
You will witness something so rare, so unbelievably beautiful.
Tonight… you’ll see a live conversion!
