There will surely never come a time when the guitar isn’t the centerpiece of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Sure, genres like hip-hop and electronic music tend to dominate the charts. But there’s something about a guitar, its history and the men and women who played it that will forever be iconic.
The sounds of Chuck Berry, Les Paul, Chet Atkins and numerous others are what rock ‘n’ roll is built on. That’s not to mention what the likes of Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Stevie Ray Vaughan and, of course, Jimi Hendrix did with it.
The guitar is the ultimate rock instrument. Thus, we found it fitting in ranking the 100 greatest guitar tracks to keep it limited to artists who have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Yes, that sadly eliminates guitar greats like Robert Fripp, Derek Trucks, Steve Vai and many others. But we still were left with some of the greatest riffs of all time.
