Jude Southerland Kessler, the world’s foremost expert on the life of John Lennon and author of The John Lennon Series – an outlined nine-volume narrative history covering the story of the man who formed the Beatles – has just released her fourth installment, Should Have Known Better, which covers the year 1964.

“1964 is THE year of Beatlemania!” Kessler said. “John and the lads went on a World Tour, made the film A Hard Day’s Night and its soundtrack, while John released his first book, In His Own Write, and purchased and remodeled a new home, Kenwood. In between, The Beatles did TV programs, interviews, radio shows, and live Sunday shows in Britain…and oh yes, Beatles for Sale. This volume is a wild ride…but a fun one!”

Should Have Known Better had its official release party at The Fest for Beatles Fans in Chicago this month, and is now available for order on her official website at JohnLennonSeries.com.

With a personal Lennon library of over 300 books, numerous interview CDs, DVDs, periodicals, and interview tapes, Kessler undertook seven trips to Liverpool, England to interview John Lennon’s childhood friends, early band members, art college mates, and business associates before embarking on writing the series, which is told in a narrative format and heavily documented.

“Narrative history presents the facts in a ‘story-version’ which adheres strictly to what actually happened,” said Kessler. “In Should Have Known Better there are over 4,000 footnotes, so what John did, said, sang, wore, and ate is all 100% factual. Bill Harry called my genre ‘factional.'”

Kessler published the first volume in her series, Shoulda Been There, in 2007; the second, Shivering Inside, in 2010; and the third, She Loves You, in 2014. In addition to her role as author, Kessler is the official blogger for The Fest for Beatles Fans in New York City and Chicago, the Symposium Chairperson for the annual Beatles at the Ridge Festival, and has served as co-chair of the GRAMMY Museum(R) Mississippi’s Beatles Symposium. She also currently co-hosts the “She Said, She Said” show on BlogTalkRadio with author Lanea Stagg.

“There are still five volumes in The John Lennon Series yet to come. The next, Shades of Life, will cover 1965 as the first rift in The Beatles begins to form under the great pressure they endured,” Kessler said. “I appreciate all those who have chosen to embark on this journey with John. So many people ‘shoulda been there’ for him and were not. The readers of The John Lennon Series truly are.”
