A Hard Day’s Night: A Private Archive Book Signing Co-Author Martha Karsh – Tuesday, July 10th 4p.m. to 6p.m. in Fab4 Cafe at The Beatles Story in Liverpool
… capturing the infectious energy of the young band at the height of Beatlemania and the spirit of Britain at the time of its release. The Beatles A Hard Day’s Night: A Private Archive [Phaidon; $125.00 US/$170.00 CAN] presents a treasure trove of rare photographs and ephemera accompanied by text from Mark Lewisohn, the world’s foremost Beatles historian. This lovingly curated volume offers a remarkable behind-the-scenes peek at the band’s beloved first film and celebrates its enduring legacy while evoking the chaos and excitement of 36 hours in the life of the Fab Four.
Selected from the private archive of Walter Shenson, the producer of the film, more than 300 images of spontaneous, unguarded moments on-set and between takes, film stills, and production images are supplemented by dozens of pieces of ephemera: script pages, movie posters, magazine covers, ticket stubs, fan letters, and song lyrics. Beautifully reproduced in tipped-in booklets throughout the book, the ephemera provides unique historical context while a foreword from Richard Lester, director of the film, adds personal insight as he recalls his first day of filming “A Hard Day’s Night” when he met The Beatles at Paddington Station and watched as fans chased them down the platform.
With its unsurpassed wealth of images and superb production values including gatefold photographs, The Beatles A Hard Day’s Night: A Private Archive will be a cherished addition to the library of Beatles fans of all ages.
