The 2018 edition of The Sunday Times of London’s list of the U.K.’s wealthiest people officially gets published this weekend, but the paper has revealed some advance details about the tally in an article posted Thursday. It probably won’t surprise you to hear that, once again, the richest musician in the U.K. is Sir Paul McCartney.The former Beatles star and his wife, American trucking heiress Nancy Shevell, have a combined fortune of 820 million pounds, or about $1.1 billion, up from their 2017 net worth of 780 million pounds.Theater legend Andrew Lloyd Webber is #2 on the list of the U.K.’s richest musicians, followed by U2, who have a collective worth of 569 million pounds, or about $720 million. Elton John is fourth on the tally — he’s amassed 300 million pounds, or $405 million.According to BBC News, the rest of the list of the top 10 richest musicians is also made up mainly of veteran rock artists. At #5 and #6 are Rolling Stones band mates Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, whose respective fortunes are valued at 260 million pounds and 245 million pounds, or about $350 million and $330 million.At #7 on the list are late Beatles guitarist George Harrison‘s widow and son, Olivia and Dhani Harrison, with 230 million pounds, or $310 million.Ex-Fab Four drummer Ringo Starr is ranked eighth with 220 million pounds, or about $297 million. Former Police frontman Sting rounds out the top 10 with 190 million pounds, or about $257 million; he finished just behind Riverdance star Michael Flatley.It’s worth noting that the 2018 list of the top 10 richest musicians is the exactly the same as last year’s tally, with the exception of Starr, who last year was tied with Flatley.Copyright © 2018, ABC Radio.
