In 1969 The Beatles recorded “Come Together” — it eventually reached number one in the U.S. Few know that John Lennon penned the lyrics with the original intention of it being a campaign song for Timothy Leary’s election run against Ronald Reagan for California — until Leary was jailed for marijuana possession in 1965. Leary may have lost his election bid, but the song eventually became a political anthem nevertheless. Now, in a time when the U.S. — and the world — seems more divided than ever, fashion designer Stacey Bendet decided to pay homage to both The Beatles, “Come Together” and a number of the band’s other songs through the AO X The Beatles capsule collection for fashion label Alice + Olivia.

“It is truly a moment in time when the world needs to ‘come together.’” said Bendet. “The Beatles songs, their lyrics, their messaging is so right right now and their music has always inspired me so it has been an honor to do this collaboration!”

The collection marks the first time that The Beatles have partnered on a capsule collection with a womenswear brand and was released to coincide with the broadcast premiere on PBS of the Grammy Award-winning Beatles documentary The Beatles: Eight Days a Week — The Touring Years.

The 13-piece collection comes in a number of bright and fun pieces with the titles of some of The Beatles’s most iconic songs. The AO X The Beatles Clyde dress is a shift dress with a Warhol-esque print of the fab four on the front. The AO X The Beatles Palmer Appliqué Tee comes with a red heart with “Can’t Buy Me Love” emblazoned on the front. The AO X The Beatles Charline Oversized Military Jacket  has a patch that says “Let it Be” on the corner. For those who want to rock The Beatles with their eveningwear, there’s the colorful AO X The Beatles Ursula Embellished Gown Skirt. Fans of the seminal Abbey Road photo of Lennon, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney and George Harrison immortalized as they cross the famous London street will adore the AO X The Beatles Mani Embroidered Dress. Or for something a little more simple, there’s the AO X The Beatles Eloise Appliqué button-down denim shirt with the phrase “I Want to Hold Your Hand” on it. If you’d rather carry a little something of The Beatles with you, there are two clutches: one says “All You Need Is Love” on black over a red heart, while the other depicts a bright yellow sun with the obvious “Here Comes the Sun” on it.

The collection — which, according to the Alice + Olivia website, was “inspired by love” — will retail between $195-$1,295. The products will be available at Saks Fifth Avenue and alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet retail stores across the U.S., Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Japan as well as on www.aliceandolivia.com.
