Strawberry Fields is a 2.5-acre landscaped section in New York City’s Central Park, designed by the landscape architect Bruce Kelly, that is dedicated to the memory of John Lennon who died in 1980.
It was officially dedicated on October 9th, 1984 – John’s birthday. Yoko worked with the landscape artist, Bruce Kelly, and New York Central Park Conservancy to create this beautiful memorial to the memory of John Lennon who was dedicated to world peace. When the trees are bare, the garden is visible from the high floors of The Dakota Building, where Yoko still resides.
It is a mecca for tourists, who daily lay flowers on the beautiful mosaic. The surroundings are peaceful, as would befit such an iconic place of reflection. Groups often join hands and sing “Imagine,” which is very moving.
