Caxton Hall
Site of Ringo and Maureen’s 1965 Wedding
10 Caxton Street St. James Park, London, UK
Caxton Hall has seen many celebrity weddings over the years.
They include Elizabeth Taylor, Diana Dors, Peter Sellers, Orson Welles, Joan Collins, Barry Gibb, Adam Faith, Billy Butlin and Roger Moore. (But not to each other)!
Even earlier in history, Prime Minister Anthony Eden married Clarissa Spencer-Churchill, the niece of Sir Winston.
It was also the venue where the Suffragettes would meet to plan their strategy to obtain the rights of women to vote.
And on 11th February 1965, Ringo Starr and Mo (Maureen) Cox were married, accompanied by Brian Epstein, Elsie and Harry Graves, (Ringo’s parents), Mo’s parents, and George and John. Paul was away on holiday in Tunisia.
There have been many other notable happenings. Sir Winston Churchill made his wartime speeches from there, and Patti Boyd first attended a lecture about Transcendental Meditation, which information she conveyed to George and his buddies, and so their whole relationship with The Maharishi Mahesh Yogi began. And episodes of Downton Abbey were also shot there.
