Buckingham Palace surely does not need any introduction, this central focal of London’s sightseeing tours, and Royals watchers.
It is listed here because it is where The Beatles were bestowed with their MBE’s which really secured their place in British History. The Ceremony took place in October 1965.
Two years later, they wore them on the album cover of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Four years later John decided he no longer wanted to keep his.
HM Queen Elizabeth II bestowed the Honors, while the world’s news media watched. TV viewing figures of the event were at an all time high. I remember Paul’s Dad nearly bursting with pride, to think that his son had achieved such recognition.
John was later to return his in protest of the Vietnam War and various matters that angered him at the time. He had given the actuan Award to his Aunt Mimi who proudly displayed it in her Poole, Dorset home, which John had kindly provided for her. He sent his Chauffeur to ask if he could borrow it, and she had no idea what was afoot. It was something that caused her great sadness.
Limited tours of the Palace are sometimes available, and anyone interested should Google the Buckingham Palace website for current information. Or use the link at the top of this page.
