64 Mount Pleasant, Liverpool L3 5RY, UK

This Grade II listed Georgian property, 62 Mount Pleasant, was originally built for merchant William Rice in 1767. Mount Pleasant is one of the oldest properties in Liverool, and one of the oldest buildings in the street. Next door, at Nº64 was formally the registry office where John Lennon married first wife Cynthia on August 23rd, 1962. Brian Eptsein was their best man. Paul McCartney and George Harrison also attended. John’s Aunt Mimi did not, as she was not in favour of the marriage. After the ceremony, the party ran down the hill, in the rain, for a wedding breakfast at Reece’s Cafe, hosted by Brian. (See separate chapter for more about this feast).

Earlier, on April 17th 1954, Ringo’s Mum married Harry Graves there. A second marriage for both. He legally adopted Ritchie (Ringo), and they became one really happy family
