An incredibly rare guitar, one of only 75 ever made, has just been sold off for £9,000 – in Truro city centre.Renowned rock and roll music shop Modern Music, which has been in the heart of Truro for 35 years, recently bought in an authentic Martin D-28 John Lennon 75th anniversary edition, steel-strung guitar.The stunning acoustic arrived in the popular shop last week and was immediately snapped up by a “big fan” who paid £9,000 for it.As well as being one of only 75 in the world, the beautiful Adirondack spruce and Madagascar rosewood guitar also has an interior label, personally signed by none other than C F Martin IV himself, the guitar-makers CEO.Aaron Pascoe, son of Modern Music’s owner Andy Pascoe, said: “It’s really nice to be able to show off pieces like that when they are so rare.“There were 75 of them released last year I believe to celebrate what would have been John Lennon’s 75 birthday.“One of our customers is a big fan and asked if we could find one, we managed to get it down, and it’s really amazing.”Read More Musicians from around the world to perform at Cornwall guitar festival Despite the shop only being tiny in size, Aaron said that it has built up a good reputation over the years, which allows it to get in rarer guitars including other Martins and Paul Reed Smith pieces.Aaron added: “It’s nice to fly the flag for Cornwall and show that small businesses down here can still compete by being able to get these rare guitars and instruments here.“We are a little shop, but because we have built up this reputation over the years and customers come to us to ask for specific things, it allows us to get in some of the rarer guitars and instruments and that’s amazing for us working here.“We love the Martin guitars, the company is arguably the inventor of steel-strung guitars. We are actually the only Martin dealer in the whole of Cornwall.“We also get some amazing guitars in from Paul Reed Smith, we have had a few of their rarer instruments as well over the years.”Read More All the positive aspects of Boardmasters according to the Newquay surf and music festival organisers While the price tag for the guitar may be high, Aaron said that he believed the return on the incredible instrument would be worth it and added that a lot of people invest in collectible guitars.He said: “He’s not a millionaire or anything like that, but it’s worth it, and in ten years’ time you’re going to get a better return on that than the interest you will get from the bank.”
