The iconic album, which marked something of a change of tune for The Beates, was last No 1 in the UK back in 1968.Released on May 26, 1967, it spent an incredible 27 weeks at the top spot.Now Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’s 50th anniversary edition, is set to return to No 1 this week – with the official album chart announced tomorrow.Sgt Pepper’s is still the best-selling studio album in UK chart history and has managed to sell 24,000 more copies in combined chart sales so far, looking to knock off Ed Sheeran’s ÷.
The newly remastered album has some additional features to its original form, including remixed material and previously unreleased session tapes. Giles Martin, producer George’s son, re-mixed Sgt Pepper’s in stereo and has now confirmed he will do the same for 1968’s White Album, which celebrates it’s half-centenary next year.Speaking on Radcliffe and Maconie’s BBC Radio 6 Music show, he was asked if there was any more of The Beatles back catalogue to remaster.
He said: “White Album, which will be the next release – that was when they started becoming properly indulgent.”

Giles added: “There are so many takes of Sexy Sadie, for instance. The efficiency went slightly out the window.”The White Album, is The Beatles’ ninth studio album and includes hits like Back in the U.S.S.R. and Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da.
