He said he will retire at the end of this year, but we will wait for confirmation of that from Gerry himself.”Sixties pop legend Gerry Marsden dramatically collapsed onstage during a gig with his band the Pacemakers just four years after his last heart operation.Marsden, 74, fell flat on his back in front of shocked fans while singing Peaceful Easy Feeling by the Eagles at his show in Newport, South Wales, as part of his UK tour.The star, who underwent a triple heart bypass in 2003 and a replacement heart valve operation in 2012, was said to look ‘visibly shaken and in pain.’He apologised to the concerned audience before leaving the stage – as the rest of the band carried on with the ‘Gerry Cross the Mersey’ show.Liverpool band Gerry and the Pacemakers burst onto the scene in the 1960s with a string of hits, including ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and ‘Ferry Cross the Mersey’, after being signed by Beatles manager Brian Epstein.They broke up in 1966, but Marsden reformed the group in 1974 and they have been touring ever since. Andy Howells, who was watching the show at The Riverfront in Newport, said: ‘As a song ended Gerry turned away from the audience, stumbled and appeared to lose his balance.
