Barry Lewis: The years are flying by, in case you haven’t noticed
Happy New Year! Welcome to 2017. Feel older? No? Are you sure? Let me see what I can do about that. Paul McCartney turns 75 years old in June. We all thought it was something when he was actually old enough to sing “When I’m Sixty-Four.” That was more than a decade ago. I have a hard time believing the guy’s 75 given that his hair is darker than mine. Heck, it’s darker than most 12-year-olds. How about this: Ringo Starr will be 77 a few weeks later. Peace, love and Geritol.Hey, since we’re all turning another year older, I’ve come up with a few anniversaries to note in 2017 that are sure to make us all feel like decrepit, dusty old elephants.By the way, the song “When I’m Sixty-Four” was on the Beatles album “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” which turns 50 years old in June. You know what else turns 50 this year? The Big Mac. Still has two all beef patties special sauce lettuce cheese pickles onions on a sesame seed bun.Has it really been 40 years since we first heard the lines: “May the Force be with you” and “I’m due back on the planet Earth” and “Would ya just watch the hair.” Know the movies? That shows your age.In May we’ll mark the centennial of the birth of President John F. Kennedy, although he’ll forever be frozen in time as the youthful 46-year-old leader of Camelot playing in the Oval Office with his kids.
