‘1964’ returns to bring the Beatles to life – Tulsa World: Arts And Entertainment
The band known as “1964: The Tribute” was one of the first acts that Larry Payton booked when he was establishing what would become Celebrity Attractions. And for the next 30 or so years, this quartet of Cleveland, Ohio-based musicians who re-created the look and the sound of the early Beatles in painstaking detail, would make an annual trip to Tulsa to perform.“Tulsa was the only — and I mean, THE ONLY — city that we played every year,” said Mark Benson, one of the group’s founding members who portrays John Lennon, in a 2013 interview. That string was broken last year, when Celebrity Attractions presented a different take on the Beatles legacy, with a show titled “Gimme Abbey,” featuring tribute bands for the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
