A question that is often asked when discussing the quality of The White Album is ‘were The Beatles simply throwing ideas at the wall by this point and seeing what worked?’Given how many styles are squeezed onto the album’s four sides of vinyl, you’d think that the answer was yes, and there’s a reasonable amount of credence to this school of thought. However, by this point in their career, they had afforded themselves the time to do this, given that they’d ceased touring in 1966, so why shouldn’t they try everything and see what works?
