Like all art, songwriting requires an incredible level of dedication. Not just to complete the track and record it, but to stay within the emotion for as long as it takes to complete that process. The emotional toil is a definitive characteristic of the job, and it means that when a track has been laid onto tape, it can be erased, to some degree, from the mind of the creator. This means, more often than not, songwriters are their own worst critics.
