Latin American Herald Tribune – Vintage Home Movies Show rare Footage of The Beatles
SYDNEY, Australia – A collection of home movies, filmed by a former Australian dancer and makeup artist, have revealed previously unseen footage of the legendary band, The Beatles. The exclusive footage that was shot by Dawn Swane with a Super 8 camera and other equipment between the decades of 50s and 90s, includes a moment from the life of the British group in the makeup room of a television channel in Manchester. In the recording, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr appear to be relaxing during the 49 seconds of the soundless black-and-white images, as the makeup artist went about her work for the special “The Music of Lennon and McCartney” on Nov. 1, 1965.Swane filmed the shots while working and when her co-workers held a small farewell party to mark her return to Australia. The tapes were donated two years ago by Swane’s daughter and production designer Melinda Doring to the National Film and Sound Archive, or NFSA.”They were a celebrating a little and in fact there’s a moment in which Ringo tells Swane, ‘This is no way to use a camera’, and takes away the camera and begins filming her. It was a memorable experience,” Miguel Gonzalez, NFSA manager of media and social networks told EFE.
