Many people would class some Beatles classics among their favourite songs of all time.

But what did the Fab Four themselves hold as their favourite songs? It is clear from interviews around the time that John Lennon held the tracks penned by his song writing partner Paul McCartney among his favourites by the band.

Among these was Hey Jude, John said this track resonated with him as he felt his fellow Beatle wrote it “for him.”

He said: “I always heard it as a song to me ‘Hey, John.’

“Subconsciously, he was saying, ‘Go ahead, leave me.’ On a conscious level, he didn’t want me to go ahead.

“The angel in him was saying, ‘Bless you.’ The devil in him didn’t like it at all, because he didn’t want to lose his partner.”
