‘You’re Sixteen’ was written by the songwriters behind some Disney films.
M. Richard Robert B. Sherman and Sherman Sherman was a pair of professional songwriters who were also known as The Sherman Brothers. They composed music for Walt Disney’s later films, including Mary Poppins and The Jungle Book. The Sherman Brothers also wrote pop singles, including “It’s a Small World (After All),” which was used in Disneyland.
Richard discussed the origins of The Sherman Brothers’ song “You’re Sixteen” in an interview for the 2016 book More Songwriters on Songwriting. “We wanted to give the listeners something they hadn’t heard,” he said. “They had heard a lot of hard rock beats.” Shuffle rhythms, however, had never been heard before.
