PAUL MCCARTNEY opened up about how one of the greatest Beatles songs Yesterday became a “solo song” and didn’t feature John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison. He admitted, “It was a big deal at the time.”

McCartney is about to release a new book, The Lyrics; 1956-The Present, in which he delves in depth into some of the greatest compositions of his extraordinary career. In a recent radio broadcast, he read out excerpts from the book, particularly one about the writing of Yesterday. It is packed with fascinating anecdotes, from why the other three Beatles do not appear on the track, to his initial worries he had plagiarised the tune and an early plan to release the song as experimental electronica.
